Get to the Top of the Search Results With SEM

How to Create a Powerful SEM eCommerce Strategy

It seems like SEO gets most of the attention when it comes to marketing, but we can’t forget about SEM! Now… what is SEM?

First, let’s go over the basics: SEO stands for search engine optimization. It’s a non-paid effort that centres around optimizing your website and content with words and phrases that people would type into a search engine.

For example, if your eCommerce site sells supplements in Canada, you might utilize a mix of words and phrases including:

• online supplement store canada

• protein shakes for athletes

• women’s probiotics canada

• beetroot extract

As you build trust with Google by providing users with high quality, original content, you will hopefully start to naturally rank higher for the keywords you’ve chosen.

Google uses an algorithm to determine which website or page can best answer a user’s query (there are other factors too, including how fast your site is and how long people stay on a page vs. bouncing away after a few seconds).

If you do SEO right, you’ll be rewarded with non-paid or organic traffic, which means people are typing your keywords into the search engine and seeing your website or webpage in the results.

Great! However, SEO takes time.

And, if you’re targeting high-traffic, high-competition keywords, you may never get to the coveted #1 spot in Google.

That’s where eCommerce SEM comes in.

What is SEM?

SEM stands for search engine marketing, also known paid search. The most commonly used paid search tool is Google Ads, so I’m going to focus on that.

By using SEM for your online store, you’re fast-tracking your way to the top of the search results.

The process of using paid search ads (also called PPC, which stands for pay-per-click) as part of your SEM eCommerce strategy includes:

• Targeting geographic areas

• Creating ad campaigns that target that group

• Writing relevant ad copy that will entice and compel your target audience to click on the ad

• Monitoring continually for clicks, impressions and conversions

You’ll be able to see what the keywords you want to target will cost per click (CPC) in Google Ads.

The cost of your eCommerce SEM depends on how popular a keyword is, and which position you’d like your ad to appear in in the paid results.

For example, targeting a keyword such as “women’s red high heels” for your eCommerce shoe store is going to cost you less than “women’s shoes.”

When using SEM for your online store, you can set a budget per day, per campaign and per keyword so you don’t end up with any surprises!

Google Ads lets you target whatever audience you’d like, from time zone to language preference.

You can have your ad appear at certain times, choose keywords you don’t want your ad showing for, adjust bids for each keyword and more.

The success of your SEM online store strategy depends on a number of factors, not just how much you’re willing to pay for each click.

Like I mentioned above, crafting compelling ad copy that entices visitors to click on your ad and monitoring results is a big part of the process.

If you don’t have valuable content or a clear call to action on your website when a visitor lands, you’re not going to get very far.

Moreover, if you’re not constantly tweaking campaigns and analyzing data, you’re wasting your eCommerce SEM budget on unqualified clicks.

Your online store SEM package will be specifically tailored for your product or service to give you the best results possible. Learn more about what we offer.

It’s Not a Battle Between SEO & SEM

Search engine marketing isn’t an either/or game. SEO is still important when you’re focusing on an SEM eCommerce strategy, and vice versa.

An effective SEO/SEM campaign will mean lower costs and higher visibility in Google. If you don’t spend time on SEO and your site takes forever to load, you’re going to waste money on e-commerce SEM.

People are going to click on your ad but not stick around waiting for a website to slowly load. If people are clicking on your ad and quickly leaving your site, Google will lower your Quality Score and raise your CPC.

SEO is a long-term strategy that can help you increase leads and sales. Using SEM can help you get results fast, but remember you’re paying for that traffic. If you can appear in more searches organically, you can reduce your SEM efforts or focus on new paid keywords to boost other areas of your business.

It’s Time to Get Serious About Voice Search Optimization

How to Create an Effective SEO Strategy for Your Business Website

Last week I talked about what voice search technology means for your business. It’s such an important topic that I decided to write a second part related to SEO this week.

From Google Assistant to Siri, people are speaking rather than typing to search online more than ever.

According to Location World, more than 40 percent of adults used spoken search on a daily basis in 2016. ComScore estimates that over 50 percent of searches will be voice-based by 2020.

It makes sense: it’s much easier to speak a question than it is to type it. And it allows you to multitask while driving, cooking or walking.

This is not a fad, or something you should ignore – if you want to get ahead and stay ahead of the competition, now’s the time to do it.

Here’s what to focus on:

It’s all about location, location, location

In last week’s blog, I covered the importance of using local keywords to attract visitors and customers. Using these local targeted keywords is a huge part of any SEO strategy for your website.

Mobile voice-related searches are three times more likely to be locally based. People are looking for what’s nearby right now, so the more specific you can get with your keywords and copy the more likely they are to find you.

Use your location with keywords as often as you can, and don’t forget to keep your Google My Business page and Yelp page updated with your current information – these results are served too, not just your web content.

Be more natural

What someone types into a search bar is going to be different from a spoken query. For example, if I want to find a hotel near the airport in Toronto, I’d type something like “hotels near airport Toronto” into the search bar.

However, if I’m speaking my search, it would be more like “what hotels are near the airport in Toronto?”

Google is looking for natural language, so you’re going to have to brainstorm the types of questions people might ask that include your target keywords.

Incorporate conversational, long-tail keyword phrases into your content as much as possible.

Some great ways to create natural content include:

• About and FAQ pages

• Blogs and articles

• Answering questions on your Google My Business Questions and Answers section

• Providing as much info as you can to Google My Business and Yelp, including hours of operation, products or services offered, parking, delivery or shipping options and so on.

Aim for featured snippets and People also ask

Both Google Home and Google Assistant read out featured snippets when answering queries, so you want to get to the top!

Featured snippets are selected search results that are found in a box on top of Google’s organic results.

Google wants to give users the best answer so it’s essential you answer questions clearly and update your website with fresh, engaging copy on a regular basis.

Research shows answers in the form of lists have done very well in featured snippets. The more conversational answers your site and online profiles contain, the better your chances of appearing in this coveted spot.

The same goes for “People also ask”. You might have seen this pop up when you type in or speak a question. Check out the example below – I asked, “where are the best boutiques in nyc?”

Below the top few results there is often a “People also ask” section. Each of those dropdown menus answers a related question using content from well-optimized websites or blogs.

Create copy for a 9th grade reading level

No matter what your business offers it’s never a good idea to write overly technical or jargon-filled copy. It doesn’t benefit the user, and it doesn’t benefit your SEO.

Research shows that content written at a 9th grade reading level – or below – appears more often as a voice result. You can use a tool such as the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level to determine what grade your content is at and adjust accordingly.

It’s not about dumbing down your site – it’s about answering questions succinctly and clearly rather than filling your webpages with unnecessary language that will only confuse searchers and search engines.

Focus on adding these strategies to your marketing efforts to increase traffic, leads and sales as adoption of this exciting technology continues to grow. The more you focus on voice search optimization now the better results you’re going to get in the long run.

How to Marie Kondo Your Website

9 Website Redesign & Refresh Tips

You’ve probably heard of Marie Kondo by now: she sparked a whole movement of decluttering, and has a Netflix show called “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo.”

Also known as the KonMari method, her focus is on organizing your home by getting rid of items that do not “spark joy.”

While her method applies more to dresser drawers and workspaces, there’s no reason why you can’t Marie Kondo your website! Just like your home and office, your site needs to be cleaned from time to time.

Here are 9 website redesign and refresh tips to help you get the most out of the experience:

Do a content audit

You can’t see where you’re going if you don’t know where you’ve been, right? A content audit is about taking inventory of all the content on your site so that you can see what’s relevant and what’s not.

If you’ve got blog posts that are years old, it’s time to decide if there’s value in repurposing them with up-to-date content, or taking them down. We’re doing this right now as we prepare to revamp our website. Many of our very old articles are either being trashed or repurposed for future, more up-to-date articles.

Be careful not to kill a blog post that’s driving a huge chunk of your traffic, but don’t hold on to every article if the info is no longer relevant or your target audience has changed.

Also, if you have products or services available online, make sure the description and pricing for each is current.

Revisit your content strategy

While you’re doing your content audit, explore your analytics to see what content people are spending time on and what content is performing poorly.

Once you have a clear picture of your best-performing articles, blogs and videos, you can work on creating fresh and engaging content and/or repurpose the right stuff.

It can be helpful to create a content calendar that breaks down weeks or months by theme.

Let’s use marketing for health coaches as an example. In January, you might want to focus on healthy eating, breaking bad habits and fun workouts to tie in with New Year’s resolutions.

In June, you could focus on water-based workouts, refreshing summer meals and the importance of sunscreen. Brainstorm a list of ideas and go from there!

Make sure your pages look good on mobile

You should be keeping mobile in mind every time you create a new piece of content, and now’s the time to take an even closer look.

Too many business owners put all their energy into website redesign, neglecting this critical part of the user experience. Or, some business owners feel their audience doesn’t use mobile to access their site.

This is a poor assumption that can have huge ramifications. Many people are browsing your website, reading your eNewsletter and checking out your blog on their smartphones. If in doubt, check your Google Analytics that will tell you how much website traffic comes from mobile phones.

Ensure web pages are easy to follow, buttons are big enough to click on and no content is lost when you’re looking at it on a smartphone.

Check for broken links

This is another great way to dust off your website. Broken links not only annoy and potentially drive away visitors (often sending them right to your competition), but they’re also bad for your search engine rankings.

There are various tools that let you scour your site for broken links, so use them.

Update your About Us page if needed

Do you have bios from employees who left six months ago? Has your company received new awards or accolades?

If a potential client lands on your site and sees outdated info, they’re going to think twice about buying from you, so keep your About Us page fresh and polished.

Ensure your software and plug-ins are up to date

This is essential not only to tidiness, but to website security.

You may be tempted to ignore those messages telling you to update to the latest version, but they’re essential to prevent security vulnerabilities and keep your site at optimal speed and functionality.

This is especially crucial if you have access to visitors’ information such as credit card numbers and email addresses.

Consider a site refresh

Maybe your business has evolved and you want to rebrand your logo. Or, maybe you’re seeing photos from two years ago on your “What’s New” page!

Let’s use the example of a health and wellness website design. If a health coach originally worked with millennials with limited budgets but now targets pregnant and breastfeeding women for meal and exercise planning, he or she would need to add brand messaging, photos and content that appear to the new target audience.

Small changes can make a big difference, but make sure you’re rebranding for the right reasons if you’re thinking about updating a key part of your brand identity. Here’s one of my blog articles that might help: The Right Reasons for Rebranding Your Business Logo.

Check for clear calls to action

You need to show visitors what to do, or else what they’ll probably do is leave. Now’s the time to fix clunky CTAs that aren’t working (look at your stats for insight) or find pages where they’re missing.

Here are some things to keep in mind when you’re optimizing your CTAs:

Use actionable text that draws in your visitor (think “Download the eBook” not “Click here”).

Make CTA a main focus. If you have lots of links, images and copy competing for attention, your call to action could get lost.

Create urgency with words like “today” and “now.”

Experiment with the first person. According to a study by Unbounce, changing button text from the second person (“Start your free trial”) to the first person (“Start my free trial”) resulted in a 90% increase in clicks.

Strong CTA for coaching website

Speed up your site

Do some pages on your website take a long time to load?

According to MatchMetrics, 14% of your audience will start shopping at another site if your page loads are slow, and 23% will simply stop the shopping experience or walk away from the computer.

Take a long look at your hosting provider, image sizes and videos and installed plugins to start to get to the root of what’s causing your lagging responsiveness.

5 Tips to Take Care of Your Newly Replaced Windshield

Have you just had your windshield replaced? If so, you are on the right page. In this article, we are going to share with you a couple of tips that will help you take care of your newly replaced windshield. With these tips on your mind, you can prevent further damage and save a lot of money. Without further ado, let’s take a look at 5 of the tips that you may want to consider. Read on to find out more.

Be Gentle

After you have got your windshield replaced, make sure you get at least 60 minutes before taking your car outside on the road. The thing is that the adhesive requires at least a couple of minutes to get hard and set. If you don’t give it enough time to settle down, the windshield won’t be able to fit firmly into the frame. And this can be disastrous and can have a negative impact on the structural integrity of your car.

Apart from this, it can cost you a good deal of money as you will have to spend more money to reinstall the glass. For the next 24 hours, you should be very gentle with your vehicle. In other words, you should shut the doors of your car gently and drive it on even roads.

Keep the Retention Tape in place

Although removing the retention tape won’t make your car look ugly, it plays a great role in fixing the position of the molding in addition to keeping the glass in place. Therefore, you may want to wait at least 24 to 48 hours before you drive your car just like before. Therefore, it is a good idea to leave the retention tape untouched if you want to be on the safe side.

Don’t Wash Your Car

For the next 24 hours, don’t think about a car wash. In fact, you don’t even try to wash the car yourself. Ideally, you may want to wait for at least two to three days before you take your car for a car wash. This is of paramount importance.

Keep a Window Open

The integrity of your vehicle windshield will be negatively impacted if the air pressure inside the cabin continues to build up. Therefore, we suggest that you keep at least one window open slightly. This will allow the hot air to escape the vehicle and prevent any cracks or leaks. This step is quite important if you want to equalize the pressure inside your car.

Change Your Route

If you had to replace your car windshield due to rough roads, we suggest that you take an alternate route. In other words, you may want to drive along a different route, in addition, to park it in a shady spot.

Replacing your car windshield costs a great deal of money. Therefore, you may want to get it done by a professional and follow the steps given in this article. This will help you make sure that the windshield stays in place.

Biggest Mistake When Starting An Online Business!

Are You Ready To Face The Hard Truth?

Affiliate marketing is a great way to start an online business. Many successful online business owners have used affiliate marketing to launch their online businesses. After achieving a certain level of success, they specialize in their interests and start other businesses.

I know of affiliate marketers who have achieved high incomes; however, even though it may be a great way to get started this should not be assumed it is easy.

Affiliate marketing is not easy, although you can find mentors who will help and guide you so you can prevent making the mistakes, which in itself will accelerate your learning curve. However, there is still going to be a learning curve and a lot of work.

One of the biggest misconceptions I believe out there in starting a business online is, ‘people set up and affiliate program or website and then sit back and expect the money to roll in.’

Although to most this seems ludicrous. Yes, you will be correct in thinking that this type of thinking is ludicrous, people are still doing it, and subconsciously this is precisely how they think.

They set up their affiliate program, website or blog, then start doing excellent work. As the results aren’t quick enough, they become distracted by the next big thing or stop believing that this business they have just started will work.

There are good reasons for people to have this behaviour and belief system. The internet business opportunities have taught people for years about money-making opportunities and get rich quick schemes that have littered the internet since time began, (online that is).

The making money online it’s easy, sit back and watch the money roll in, earn millions while sleeping or working ten minutes – all these tag lines.

These taglines are correct, but only after a lot of work has done to set this business up to be at a stage where you will be making money in your sleep, etc.

The reality is, if you want to start a business online, start making money online – you are going to have to put in a lot of work. Yes, you read correctly. You are going to have to put in a lot of work. Let’s face it. You are starting a business. Especially in beginning a business you are going to have to do a lot of work to get it up and running.

There is going to have to be an investment. This investment would either be time, money or a combination of both. Just remember you are starting a business. Starting by not investing a lot of money – you would need to spend a lot of time. The reverse is true. The best option in my experience and from the mentors I follow is a little of both – time and money.

Good mentors will help and guidance along the process, saving a lot of hassle, time and financial waste. However, you will need to be able to find these mentors, that could be difficult enough with every other website promising the world on a push button get rich quick scheme.

I am thankful for being introduced to my mentor and have not looked back. When I met him, he told me I was going to have to do a lot of work. He didn’t shy away from this fact. I will have to put in the time. He also told me very clearly that I will have to invest some money.

After all, I am starting a business, and these are two aspects many don’t mention or want to hear. The result is they get caught out and lose interest or end up losing money, wasting a whole lot of time only to have nothing to show for it. Therefore in the process, their confidence in any future online business in tatters.

So if you can be honest with your self, you admit that you are going to have to put in some real work and invest some money. If you understand this simple point, you already have an advantage over most people who start online.

Surprisingly today, people are still looking for that golden egg or easy money.

No, it is not all doom and gloom. Although I don’t think that what I have just shared is doom and gloom, instead it should be a breath of fresh air and should fill you with excitement as I have just told you that if you are willing to put in the work and invest some money and stick with it, you will be successful.

Now mentors like mine who have genuinely been successful in the area that they teach and have a passion for teaching others are invaluable to people who want to start a business online. You will be able to learn how to do things the right way rather than have to figure it out yourself. They will have developed processes and tools that they pass on to speed up the process and help build, once again, you don’t have to improve. However, more importantly, they will be able to guide and mentor you and invite you into the community they have created where people are helping each other to achieve their online business goals.

Let’s admit it the first time you mentioned that you were starting an online business to your closest and dearest, be honest they were probably not that supportive and filled with excitement. Now that alone is one step closer to defeat for your online business dreams. However, with a ready-made community that are all interested in you succeeding in your online business goals and more often than not can help and guide you along the path to success, continuously encouraging and supporting you.

If you would like to get introduced to my mentor who will tell you like it is, he will show you how to genuinely start and achieve success then click on the link below. I will send you a three-part video training from him that will show you the quality of the mentorship you will get, and it will show you the quality of the training you will get. It will show you the honesty and easy to follow precise instructions.

I highly recommend this great community, combined with the mentoring program. I have personally been trying to achieve success on the internet for many years. I have fallen for probably close to every scam, which eventually crushed my goals of ever having a business online. A guy introduced me to my mentor through this same video training I am offering you right now for free. Have a look and make your mind up. All the best with your online business endeavour, I sincerely hope you can put in the necessary work and achieve the success you desire for yourself and your family.

P.S.

With this mentorship program, you will not get forced into selling their products and services. What I liked most of all is that the strategies they teach they even encourage you to focus on your interests and passions and start your business in those spaces through their mentoring.

How To Start My Own Online Business in 5 Simple Steps

In the current age, the internet has become one of the most powerful money-generating tools. Personally, I am one of the beneficiaries of the internet. Well, before I got my breakthrough, I was always keen on how to start my own online business. At first, it seemed impossible, but today I can testify that it has been a fruitful journey so far. That said, I’ll walk you through the steps you need to take to help you achieve your goal and be successful with your online business.

1. Decide what you want to do

One of my answers of how to start my own online business was to choose what I preferred to do. I chose affiliate marketing. Why did I go for it? Well, it is somewhat easy to run, and you will not be needed to have thousands of dollars to start it up. All you need to have is a well-established website that can attract huge traffic.

2. Choose your niche

Yep, you need to choose this before you carry on with your business. Before you think of the niche to stick with, you need to ensure that you have a passion for it. As I thought about how to start my own online business, I went for health and fitness products because I am and have always been a health freak.

3. Develop a website, If you don’t have one, yet

A website is similar to your traditional shop when it comes to online business. You may not be able to run an online business smoothly without a well-developed website. In my case, I already had a website, so I only needed to add valuable content for my website. I had a blog that I wrote about health and fitness tips, which I then included a link to the products of my clients. Since I already owned a blog, it made me think of how to start my own online business.

I started earning $5 per click, and that was good money because I received around 1,000 visitors in a month. $5,000 a month is good money, especially because I worked from the comfort of my home.

4. Promote your website/Page

One downside of an online business is that you must keep your website active every single day for you to stay on top of the search engine result pages.

Now, back to my story. After learning how to start my own online business, I had to maximize my online presence. Social media was my first target because that’s where most internet users are found. There is one unique product called Facebook for Business. Through this product, I managed to reach out to many people, and I also got some insights of bettering my business. Email marketing is another option that I’m sure it can help you with your online marketing. Online marketing also helped me in my quest on how to start my own online business.

5. Learn the legal obligations

Just because you’re your own boss and you do things your way doesn’t mean that you should ignore the legal obligations. You must be keen to understand the legal guidelines that you must follow as your carry on with your business. After I had progressed further on how to start my own online business, I had to learn about the most recent FTC regulations. These rules are important in the affiliate marketing field.

The Power of Online Business Directories and How to Get Started Fast

More and more small businesses today are using online business directories to their benefit. If you run a small business, you likely spend a great deal of your time thinking about your marketing plan. online business directories can be a great addition to your current small business marketing strategy. Those sites can help your small business expand its website traffic, increase the likelihood that your website will be found by interested visitors and increase your bottom line. If you haven’t taken a look at those directories and considered how your small business could use them to increase its market presence, then now is the time to start!

What Are Online Business Directories?

There are many different types of online business directories available on the Internet. Each of these sites serves a specific purpose and can be used by your small business in specific ways.

An online business directory is a website submission service that allows your small business’ website to be added to a specific category where it can be searched for by interested visitors. Listing your small business on an online business directory increases your website’s visibility on the web and helps to create inbound links to your business’ website. This places make it easy for people to find what they are looking for. These directories can be accessed from just about anywhere that has an internet connection. This means that people could find your business’ website from their home, office or even while traveling.

Every website that is submitted to an online business directory is placed in a specific category. These categories can range in how they are organized. Some are organized by business-related categories, some are organized according to personal preferences and others are organized by subject. Each category consists of several websites relating to a specific topic. Each website listing features the name of the website, a direct link to the website and a short description of the website. Interested Internet visitors will be able to browse through the various categories in the directory and locate websites like yours that they may be interested in visiting. Essentially, those places make it easier for any visitor to find your business’ website.

How Do Online Business Directories Work?

The concept of online business directories is actually a pretty simple one. These webistes are very similar to the Yellow Pages in the real world, only these listings are only online. (Actually Yellow Pages.com is now one of the largest online directories as well.) A directory is just a listing place for a number of websites. Any type of website could be listed in an online business directory. Some directories are huge and cover every topic that someone could create a website for, while others are very small and specific to a specific niche.

Let’s use an example. Say you are a model airplane enthusiast and you want to find some websites that cater to your specific interest. You could look through a huge online business directory such as Google My Business and find several dozen websites that are related to model airplanes. Or you could look for an online business directory that is niche-specific, which means that the entire online business directory would be based on hobbies such as model airplanes. With a niche-specific directory you may find even more websites that are based on your specific interest than what you could find on the larger directories.

Since online business directories are organized by categories, finding websites that relate to a specific interest such as model airplanes is very easy. You could find information and websites about model airplanes in your local region too, if you use a regional-specific online business directory. So if you live in Phoenix you could find websites that relate to both model airplanes and the Phoenix area. These places will direct you to websites that you want to find. All you have to do is perform a search in the online business directory for a specific topic or browse through the various categories until you find the type of websites you are looking for. When you perform a search you will be given a list of all of the websites that relate to your search term. You will be presented with a number of links to these websites and each link will have a short description of what you are likely to find on the website. You can read the descriptions and choose to click on the website that best suits you.

There are many different types of websites that you could find under a specific topic as well. For example, if you search several of those sites for information relating to model airplanes you may find websites that are about building model airplanes, flying model airplanes, creating historically accurate model planes, tips and instructions about how to fly model planes, websites that sell model airplanes and charters and associations that you could join regarding model airplanes. These are just a few of the examples you could find using an online business directory. There are simply too many topics to list them all here.

You can see how anyone can use an online business directory to find websites relating to things that interest them. As a small business owner you can see how potential customers of yours are using those web sites too. Now that you understand how online business directories work it is time to see how they can work for your business.

How Do Online Business Directories Benefit Small Businesses?

There are many benefits associated with listing your small business in an online business directory. The more directories you can use to list your business the more benefits you will reap. Here are some of the benefits of using online business directories:

Exposure
Exposure is important for all business marketing strategies. After all, the more people who are exposed to your business the more people are likely to utilize your business’ services. If online visitors aren’t able to see your website or even know that it exists, then they probably aren’t going to purchase your products or services. Listing your business’ website in those sites helps your website to gain exposure. Thousands of people use these websites every day to find things they are interested in. These are people who are actively searching for websites that are directly related to your products or services. They are already looking- all you have to do is make it easy for them to find you. These sites will expose your business to more online visitors, which could increase traffic to your website.

Increased Traffic
There are several ways that these directories can help you increase the amount of traffic your website receives. For starters, the more exposure your website has the more people are likely to visit it. But these websites offer more than just exposure from potential viewers. They also offer exposure to the various major search engine crawlers like Google and even YouTube. This increases the chances that your website will appear on major search engine results pages, or SERPs, which will allow more people to see the website when they perform a regular search. Both search engine optimization exposure and exposure to more people who are searching for your website could result in increased traffic to your small business’ website.

Cheap Advertising
As a small business owner you already understand the importance of advertising. You know that it helps customers to find your business and recognize your name and brand. You probably have little room in your budget for more advertising right this moment. That is one of the major benefits of listing your business’ website in an online business directory. Online business directories are inexpensive to join and they offer a lot of exposure for the price. Some of these sites will allow you to list your business for free, while others will charge a minimal fee. Either way, you are getting a lot of exposure for far less money than you would spend on a TV or radio advertisement spot.

Professional Appearance
You want everything about your business to look professional in the eyes of your customers. A professional appearance enhances your status and makes customers more likely to patronize your business. Online directories help you to look like a professional business. When an online consumer sees your business listing in an online business directory, they will consider your business to be an authority on the subject and a professional place to do business. Unlike a search that is performed on a major search engine like Google, where there is little difference between the legitimate websites relating to a topic and the less than useful websites, those places are mostly legitimate websites. Online consumers are more likely to trust what they see on such sites.

SEO Benefits
Online business directories offer several search engine optimization benefits as well. Firstly, these directories offer you more inbound links. When an online visitor sees your website link in an online business directory, they will be able to click on it and be instantly re-directed to your website. This is a great way to increase traffic. It is a great way to improve your status in the eyes of search engine crawlers too. The more backlinks that a search engine crawler can find, the more relevant they will rank your website. This is especially true of authoritative sites. Being linked to a major online business directory, such as Google My Business, will give your website more relevancy in the eyes of Google’s search engine crawlers. This will result in a higher page ranking on the SERP. As you know, a higher search engine result page rank you get, the more people are going to click on your website link.

Increased Revenue
When more people are able to find your website it increases the chances that they will visit your website. When people visit your website they are more likely to purchase your goods or services. This means that these sites can help you increase your revenue stream. Online business directories are good for your bottom line.

Increased Brand Recognition and Customer Interaction
When an online viewer locates your website though an online business directory, they are more likely to remember your business’s name and directly interact with it. Online business directories can help your business stand out to customers as well. Overall, listing your small business in an online business directory will help you to create a more comprehensive and effective online presence.

Listing your small business’ website with several online business directories will help more people find your website, whether they are specifically searching for it or if they are just browsing. In addition to gaining exposure, appearing on those sites will provide major SEO benefits, which will help search engines find your site. Increased exposure and higher search engine rankings will result in more traffic to your website, which will result in higher revenue.

There are many different types of online business directories, from large global directories to small, niche and location-specific ones. Some examples of other types of online directories can include reciprocal link directories, free directories, paid directories, Business 2 Business directories, theme-related directories, small business directories and many, many more.

Why You Should Consider Listing Your Small Business in an Online Directory

Apart from the concept that online business directories will increase the amount of exposure your website gets and help with your SEO strategies, they are also a very effective way to directly target potential customers. Places like those make it easy for online users to find something they want. According to a study performed by Burke, 8 out of 10 people will use a print or online business directory to find companies or products they are looking for. The same study also suggested that 8 out of 10 people who use these directories to locate a business do so with the intent to purchase a product or service from them. This is a very effective form of targeted advertising. The customer already needs or wants your product or service and you can directly target them by listing your website in an online business directory.

Another reason why you should consider listing your small business has to do with your return on investment, or ROI. Since the potential benefits of getting increased website traffic are great compared to how much you will have to spend to list your website in an online business directory, you can see a great return on your investment in the form of increased revenue. You also want to keep your brand and your company name in the minds of consumers at all times, which is something else that an online business directory can help with.

What Online Business Directories Should You Use for Your Small Business?

Even though listing your website in many online business directories will improve your website’s exposure and SEO ranking, it is not effective to just SPAM your website into every single online business directory you can find. You will want to take some time to consider which specific site will give you the best ROI. The best option is to find a great combination of directories to join. If you run a small business, the best place to start may be with a local directory. This is because most people will search for businesses in their area they can patronize. Local market and niche-specific online directories can offer extremely targeted advertisements to potential local customers.

After your business is listed in these directories you can take a look at the larger and potentially more expensive general-interest directories. You will probably want to consider listing with the top 10-15 online business directories, as these will be used by a lot of people and will offer higher relevancy and authority in the eyes of search engines. Google My Business and LinkedIn are large general-interest directories that you will want to list your small business in. If your website sells tangible goods you may also want to consider listing it in comparison shopping websites and product listings directories. Studies show that 42% of consumers will look at a comparison shopping website before they decide to purchase a specific product.

The best way to figure out which specific directories your small business should be listed in is to start with your competitors. Take a look at your local and niche-specific options and figure out if your competition is already listed. If they are you need to be listed too. If they are not listed you may want to list your website as a way to beat them to the punch. In some situations it may not make sense for you to have a listing in a specific online business directory, even if your competitors are listed in it. Your goal should be to be listed in every relevant and niche-specific directory you can find as well as many of the major directories, but no so many directories that you appear SPAMMY.

In addition to listing your business in online business directories, you also need to maintain these listings. It is important for your online business directory listings to be up to date and accurate, or else you could just be wasting your time. If your directory information seems out of date your customers will probably look elsewhere.

It will probably take some time to see the results of listing your small business’ website in so many online sites, but eventually you will see results. The best way to find the perfect combination of online business directory listings for your business is to use some sort of tracking or analytics system. You will want to be able to see how many people clicked on your website links from within the directory and if your website has shown increased traffic since then. You will want to stop wasting your time with online directories that are not producing results and increase the time and effort you spend on sites that are productive.

10 Reasons Why You Should Start An Online Business

Whether you are attracted to an internet business because you hate your current job, want to improve your circumstances, or would like a more flexible lifestyle, the internet offers all these opportunities.

Why An Internet Business?

1- Flexibility

Many people come to find themselves with an internet business through necessity rather than deliberate creation. For me, I needed a flexible job which I could work around contract work. It didn’t come in often but when the phone rang, I needed to take the work. This presented all kinds of problems. Normal work didn’t pay as well and employers didn’t want me taking large chunks of time off when the other work came in!

I tried juggling several jobs over a number of years but nothing seemed to fit. At around the same time I was attempting to use e-bay to buy and sell for a bit of extra money. It wasn’t until later that I discovered affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing, for those who don’t know is a kind of referral selling. You point links from your website to other people’s goods and services. The link is tracked so that when you make a sale you are rewarded for it with a commission.

Once you know how to do this you can set up links from your online content to other people’s products and services. You can also use paid advertising to find people all over the world to sell to. This was perfect for my work because I could take my laptop anywhere with me and as long as I had an internet connection I could work. It didn’t interfere with the work when it came up, I had no boss to answer to so it was the perfect solution.

2 – Automation

There’s also a number of other reasons why I chose an internet business – and why you should too! The flexibility of the business was my primary concern. I wanted to be able to choose my own hours so I could take work when it came without any complications. But the other reason I chose this particular model was the ability to use technology to ‘leverage’ my time and income.

Once I had a website and content up and running, it kept going and I was able to make sales and deliver products without being physically present. This is the ‘magic’ of an online business. The automation involved with an online business means that you can do the work once and let that work keep running in the background. You can make sales and deliver products over and over through the same piece of content or advert, which can run an virtual autopilot 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

Each piece of content you create can send people to a landing page and sell a product. By creating many pieces of content and sharing them online you can build multiple sources of income which can all run continually, working as your own ‘automated sales team’.

3 – Ability To Scale

Along with this amazing automation is the ability to scale your business. Because there is no human intervention in the ‘sales loop’, multiple sales can happen instantaneously through the same platforms. Your content and advertising can be grown over time and scaled instantly (in the case of paid advertising). As your content gets more shares and more people flow through your website and content, your sales grow as a result. If you use paid advertising you can also scale a profitable campaign up easily by increasing your daily budget.

The automation of an online business makes it very easy to scale. In the case of a physical business this often means more staff, sales tools, larger office space and a whole lot more expense and hassle. With an online business everything is already in place. You simply need to send more customers through the automated sales systems with content and/or paid advertising methods.

4 – Low Startup Costs

When I started an online business I did it from my own pocket. I didn’t need a massive loan and I worked at a level which suited my budget. An internet business is very cost effective and you can start from scratch from pretty much any budget. If you have more to invest you can grow it faster with paid advertising. But, if you are on a budget like I was when I got started, you can get started easily and cheaply.

With a regular ‘bricks and mortar’ business there are many overheads to consider. Your costs include a business premises, staff, hardware and stock. Then there’s advertising and delivery costs. With an online business you just need a laptop and an internet connection – two things many people already have. Your main cost is getting the right education and learning the best strategy to build on.

5 – Simplicity

Technology has made it much easier than was previously possible to set up your own website and learn how to use simple online platforms to connect people to products and services. Advertising and content creation is now available for anyone to use. Websites can be set up with a few clicks and anyone with an email can learn to use the tools and strategies of online marketers.

Whereas previously website building was the domain of the tech savvy programmer, now anyone can use simple user friendly platforms and programs. An online business sounds like something for a technical person, but anyone can now learn the skills needed to build their own online business.

6 – Control

An internet business gives you control over your life. Of course it takes time to build up to a stage where it can replace your current income. But the flexibility of an internet business means you can work it around your existing employment until you can make this happen.
Once your income is beyond that of your employment, you are in a very good position to take charge of your life. You don’t have to do the daily commute, or put up with an uncomfortable working situation. If you don’t like your job you can quit. Don’t like your boss? Fire him/her!
One of the very best things about an internet based business is the control it gives you over your life. You can also build your work around your lifestyle, rather than the other way round. Most people are forced to put work first in everything they do. Family time, holidays and hobbies all tend to depend and evolve around work. An internet business allows you to prioritize the things in your life which mean the most. It can put you back in the driving seat of your life, both in terms of what you earn and how you spend your time.

7 – Work From Anywhere

Not only does an internet business offer great flexibility in terms of working hours but it also offers you the choice to work from anywhere globally. This appeals to many people who would otherwise be more trapped by conventional work in a localized workplace.
For me, it was the flexibility of being able to choose my own hours and not have a boss. But for many the ability to travel anywhere globally is the most important factor to owning their own online business.
Take your laptop anywhere with an internet connection and work while abroad and travelling.

8 – Learn Life Skills

The skills I have learned from building my own internet business also make me much more employable. I also worked for an internet based company with the skills I learned from my laptop while sitting at home!

Being able to reach people globally and target specific types of people is a great skill and very desirable in business too. I was also able to use the knowledge I learned online to build one of my other physical businesses much more quickly by using both my website building skills and paid advertising.

The internet is a fantastic opportunity for anyone to be able to improve themselves, learn new skills and build another source of income. Skills learned are yours for life, whether or not you continue down the path of building an online business.

9 – Independence

We might believe ourselves to be independent but many of us are very dependent on our work for income. As such, our employers tell us how much we can earn, how much holiday we can take and what we will be doing while at work. Financial independence is the ultimate freedom.

When we are financially independent we can take a holiday whenever we please and work in our own time and on our own agenda. An online business gives you the automation and independence to live life on your terms, without the agenda of an employer running your life.

10 – Sovereignty

Being an owner gives you sovereignty. The ability to call the shots in your business is what many entrepreneurs aspire to. As a business owner your actions determine whether you make a success of your business or not.

Having a successful online business gives you the kind of freedom which most people will never see in their lifetime. The ability to create your own life on your terms is the reward of having worked hard on your business and on yourself.
